Facilities & Equipment

The HVRHS Agriculture Science and Technology Center consists of classrooms, fully equipped food science lab, agricultural mechanics shop, livestock barn, paddocks, small animal lab, greenhouse, laboratory area, aquaculture/hydroponics lab, and floral studio.

We are currently applying for a grant to renovate an existing classroom to have a culinary space as well as renovate 500 square feet of the greenhouse to grow food for the culinary classes.

Our Greenhouse has 3,000 square feet of growing space with 2000 square feet dedicated to commercial crops, 500 square feet to educational novelty plants and 500 square feet to Farm to Table crops using hydroponics, aquaponics and aeroponics equipment.  We have state of the art control systems with a weather station and a workroom called a headhouse.

There is a designated space for working with cut-flowers including refrigeration and all the materials needed to produce products for all of life’s occasions. Floral design classes create arrangements for many school and community events throughout the year.

The Landscape Design and Construction equipment includes a landscape L-35 Kubota Backhoe, Vermeer Wood Chipper, and New Holland Skid Steer. We plan on adding a track loader, mini-excavator, and new dual-cab truck.

Our program has two animal science classrooms, a small animal room, and a barn with attached paddocks. Currently we have the following animals in the barn:  goats, sheep,  alpacas, chickens, & ducks.

The following animals reside in the classroom and small animal room:  chinchillas,  ferrets, rabbits, guinea pig, hamster, rats, bearded dragon, uromastyx, tortoises, and leopard geckos.

The animal science equipment includes an ultrasound machine, bovine breeder, injection simulator, and a livestock trailer.

Our program has a 6120 John Deere, Kubato compact tractor, Scag, New Holland Skid-steer, International Dump-body truck, 6 welding booths with arc welders and mig welders.  New equipment will be added 2020-2021.

The Aquaculture lab includes two 400 gallon fish tanks that are used currently for the culture of brook, brown and rainbow trout, while the second tank is dedicated to colorful Koi. These trout are stocked into local streams with fisheries biologists and the Koi are sold for water gardeners.

The room also has a 100 gallon display tank for trout and freshwater tropicals and a 50 gallon tank for raising trout from eggs. Other display tanks provide opportunities based on student interest.

The Food Science lab has a walk in cooler, freezer, and a variety of equipment to prepare and process food.  Construction will begin on a new Farm to Table classroom this year. The course and new classroom will foster connections to the land, food, and community.
