What is FFA?
With over 1,027,273 members aged 12–21 across 9,235 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the National FFA Organization is the largest student-led organization in the nation. Its impact is felt far and wide, inspiring the next generation of leaders.
The Housatonic Valley Regional High School FFA chapter is deeply rooted in this legacy. Chartered in 1939, just over a decade after the National FFA Organization's founding in 1928, it has been an integral part of the FFA mission ever since.
The National FFA Organization exemplifies what works in education. This dynamic youth organization transforms students’ lives by preparing them for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success. FFA members are tomorrow’s enthusiastic leaders, embodying American values, citizenship, and civic participation while fostering a profound sense of belonging within their chapters.
FFA is not just for aspiring farmers. It welcomes members who dream of becoming teachers, doctors, scientists, entrepreneurs, and more. Recognizing this diversity, the organization updated its name in 1988 to reflect the evolving opportunities within agriculture and related industries.
Today, the National FFA Organization equips its members to tackle the challenges of a changing world by encouraging them to explore diverse agricultural career pathways and develop unique talents. While we are still the Future Farmers of America, we are also the Future Biologists, Chemists, Veterinarians, Engineers, and Entrepreneurs of America.
Committed to each individual student, FFA provides a roadmap to success through agricultural education. Guided by the motto Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, and Living to Serve, FFA members rise to the challenge of service. United by their shared purpose, they embrace leadership and growth.

HVRHS FFA Newsletter February 2020.pdfThe Housatonic Valley FFA Chapter is proudly situated in the picturesque New England town of Falls Village, Connecticut. Our chapter serves students from the surrounding towns of Canaan, Cornwall, Sharon, Kent, Salisbury, Lakeville, and Falls Village, as well as from neighboring counties in New York and Massachusetts.
With an average membership of approximately 170 students, the chapter is led by a dedicated team of officers and staff. Housatonic Valley FFA members actively engage in school-based and community-focused activities, showcasing their skills and knowledge at the District, State, and National levels. These events include competitions like Envirothon, Career Development Events (CDEs), and Leadership Development Events (LDEs).
Through hands-on, project-based learning experiences called Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects, members apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings. These projects provide practical skills, enhance understanding of agricultural concepts, and help students prepare for careers in agriculture and related industries.
